Arrested While Visiting the Wisconsin Dells?

6/27/2017

Did your trip to the Wisconsin Dells end with an arrest?  The legal system can be difficult to navigate and even more so if you are an out-of-towner.  Whether you are from Wisconsin or from out-of-state, it is helpful to have local professionals guide you through the defense process.

When arrested in the Wisconsin Dells, regardless of where you are from, you are under Wisconsin’s jurisdiction. For example, if you are found in the Wisconsin Dells drunk driving, Wisconsin has the right to prosecute you for OWI (Operating While Intoxicated) or DUI (Driving Under the Influence). These charges are serious and must be handled quickly and carefully.

Traffic crimes cover the spectrum from misdemeanor to felony and include suspended or revoked drivers licenses, and criminal traffic citations.  If charged with a traffic misdemeanor or any other misdemeanor, you need to take the charges seriously.  It is important to get an attorney to assist you as quickly as possible so you can put it behind you.

While it would be great, for those out-of-state, if you could go home and hide from these charges, that is not the reality. By US Constitutional law, states and territories are required to render suspects on the request of another state.  This process is referred to often as extradition. Find a local attorney who can be an advocate for you through this process so you can put these charges to rest quickly and return home without worries. We, at Southworth and Stamman, are Wisconsin Dells lawyers here to help. Learn more about the services we provide for those facing charges while visiting the Wisconsin Dells.

Rebuilding Your Life After Being Convicted With A White Collar Crime

6/13/2017

For many, being convicted of a white collar crime is a life changing experience.  Whether it be because of fraud, embezzlement, forgery, or money laundering, there are strict laws in Wisconsin when it comes to a conviction. After you have served out your conviction, many feel lost and confused when it comes to rebuilding their life.

When beginning the process, following the steps below will help with the healing process.

  1. Take Responsibility Your Actions:  Taking responsibility for your actions will show people that you feel remorse and have used the time for reflection and personal growth.  When looking for employment or building relationships, this responsibility shows that you are ready to move forward.
  2. Comply With Court Mandates:  It is in your best interest to go over your mandates with your attorney.  Making sure all requirements are understood can guarantee you are complying and not in violation of your probation.
  3. Be Honest:  When rebuilding your life, be honest. Whether it be in relationships or applications, lying about a conviction when applying for a job or an apartment can lead to termination and eviction.

At Southworth and Stamman, LLC, we understand, and we can help. Our Wisconsin Dells defense lawyers are former prosecutors who know how to navigate the criminal justice system on behalf of the accused. We are here to protect your rights, your reputation and your freedom.
