Your Pathway To Citizenship in Sauk County

4/18/2017

For many immigrants in Wisconsin, the pathway to citizenship begins long before they find their way to Juneau, Sauk, or Columbia County.  The decision to emigrate is often lead by promise of new opportunities, connecting with family, or a fresh start.  With the current political climate in Wisconsin and the United States, some feel becoming a citizen of this country is not currently an option, but with the right representation and going through the legal system, starting a life in Sauk County can still be a reality.

Whether you are going through the steps to become a citizen or need assistance with visas, we are here to help.  If you are just starting the pathway to citizenship, the steps below are a general outline of the process for a permanent resident applying for citizenship, which has been provided by the Department of Homeland Security and the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services.

  1. Determine your eligibility, which can be done by filling out the M-480 worksheet
  2. Complete the N-400 Application for Naturalization
  3. Submit the N-400 Application to the USCIS and wait for confirmation of receipt
  4. If applicable schedule a biometrics appointment
  5. Wait for a decision from the USCIS
    1. Granted: N-400 Application was approved
    2. Continued: USCIS may be requesting additional documentation to be submitted.
    3. Denied: N-400 Application did not prove eligible for naturalization
  6. Receive notice to take the Oath of Allegiance to the United States
  7. Take the Oath, which includes a questionnaire, N-445.

Attorney Phillip Stamman spent time representing clients in deportation proceedings, and now represents immigrants in various family petitions as well as criminal defense.  His assistance gives immigrants a sense of ease when applying for citizenship in the United States.
